What is a Rabbit?
The agility and speed of wild rabbits makes them elusive targets for even the most capable of their natural predators. Apparently this characteristic, being hard to catch, lead to the slang terms “rabbit” and “chasing rabbits.” In some circles, the term “rabbit” means a crazy idea, flawed theory, or a failed argument or procedure. The term “chasing rabbits” refers to the irrational, futile pursuit of “rabbits.” If the authors of this web site were to name three favorite pet peeves, “rabbits” or “chasing rabbits” would appear on the list. Not that they oppose all crazy ideas; Heaven knows they have enough of their own, some perhaps crazy enough to be correct. But they both emphatically oppose the waste of time, energy, opportunity and resources in the quest of elusive and often ineffective objectives. When discussing money, taxes, government, etc., one can easily find numerous conspiracy theories, stories, conjectures, paranoia, myths and outright lies. Sifting truth from fiction can be frustrating. Sadly, many people fail to recognize these “rabbits” and sometimes find themselves in serious trouble. A bit more discernment might have helped. At this web site you will occasionally find a topic or idea marked with a picture of a rabbit, an indication that the authors think pursuit of this subject will most likely prove exhausting and frustrating. Or worse, dangerous. Experience has demonstrated that few rabbits are worth catching, much less chasing. Therefore, at this web site, pictures of rabbits are provided for your protection—and possibly for your amusement. |
